Top 16 Round 10 bwin MVP: Ante Tomic, FC Barcelona

Ante Tomic continued his annual Top 16 dominance on Thursday by leading FC Barcelona to an 89-71 victory over defending champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv that was worth sole possession of second place in their group. The Barcelona center posted 16 points on perfect shooting, plus 12 rebounds and 6 assists, to rack up a performance index rating of 35, which earned him bwin MVP honors for Top 16 Round 10. This marks the second time this season and the fifth time in the past three seasons in which Tomic has been MVP of the week in the Top 16. Tomic was the central factor in the game, making 4 of 4 two-point shots and 8 of 8 free throws. He also recorded 1 steal and drew 7 fouls. The week's runner-up was Trey Thompkins of Nizhny Novgorod, who compiled an index rating of 26 in his team's 89-85 victory over Laboral Kutxa Vitoria. Thompkins posted 22 points on 4-for-6 three-point shooting and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the Top 16. Jayson Granger of Unicaja Malaga also had an index rating of 26, but his came in a 90-86 loss at EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. Granger totaled 14 points and 9 assists. Milos Teodosic is next with an index rating of 25 after leading CKSA Moscow with 20 points, 9 assists and 3 steals in an 88-83 victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul. Rounding out the list of Top 16 Round 10's best performances were Teodosic's teammate Sasha Kaun, Panathinaikos guard Nikos Pappas and Milan swingman Alessandro Gentile, each with index ratings of 24. Kaun had 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Pappas registered 21 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting in a 76-70 loss at Zalgiris. Gentile scored 23 and dished 5 assists to lead his team to victory.

 

Individual leaders: Andrew Goudelock of Fenerbahce Ulker, 24 points


Fenerbahce Ulker guard Andrew Goudelock scored 24 points to lead all players in Top 16 Round 10. With 16.9 points per game, he is second in the league this season in scoring. Nizhny Novgorod guard Taylor Rochestie remains the season's top scorer with 19.1 points per game and the Top 16 leader at 18.4 per game. Tomic was not only this round's MVP, but also its best rebounder with 12. Crvena Zvezda center Boban Marjanovic remains the season-long rebounding leader with 10.4 per game. He is tied with Nemanja Bjelica of Fenerbahce Ulker for the Top 16 lead with 10.0 rebounds per game. Former Euroleague MVP Vassilis Spanoulis dished the most assists in this round, 10. His 6.6 assists per game are tied for second-most in the Top 16 behind only CSKA's Milos Teodosic (6.7 apg.). Teodosic is also the full-season leader with 7.3 assists per game. Nobody collected more steals during the round than 4 by Mindaugas Kuzminskas of Unicaja Malaga. Rudy Fernandez of Real Madrid is both the Top 16 (1.9 spg.) and season-long (1.8 spg.) leader in steals. Gustavo Ayon from Real Madrid, CSKA's Sasha Kaun and Nizhny's Art Parakhouski each blocked 3 shots this week to head the Top 16 Round 10 charts. Parakhouski is also the leader for blocks this season (2.11 bpg.) and blocks in the Top 16 (2.56 bpg.). This round's only double-doubles came from the players with the best ratings, Thompkins and Tomic.
