Top 16, Round 2 co-MVPs: Felipe Reyes, Real and Brian Randle, Maccabi

Round 2 of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 finished with joint bwin MVPs. Brain Randle of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and Felipe Reyes of Real Madrid each played critical roles in their teams' Thursday night victories and finished with performance index ratings of 29, which were the highest of the week. Randle posted 16 points on near-perfect shooting in addition to 9 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block to lead the champs to a 78-67 home victory over Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade. He was 6-for-6 on two-point shots and perfect on 4 free throws to achieve the 29 index rating. Reyes led Madrid over Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul 93-78 with 22 points and 11 rebounds. He made 9 of 13 shots and added 2 assists to claim his first weekly MVP honor since the 2005-06 season. Next on the list of Top 16 Round 2's best was Nando De Colo of CSKA Moscow, who recorded an index rating of 26. De Colo played a big role in leading CSKA to a 99-90 victory over Laboral Kutxa Vitoria on Thursday, coming off the bench for 17 points and 8 assists. He also drew 6 fouls and went 8 for 8 from the free throw line. In just his second Euroleague game this season due to injury, Olympiacos Piraeus captain Georgios Printezis posted a 23 index at home on Thursday. Printezis missed just 1 shot and totaled 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in just 21 and a half minutes as the Reds routed EA7 Emporio Armani Milan 81-58. Rounding out the best performances of the week were Sonny Weems of CSKA and Paulius Jankunas of Zalgiris Kaunas, each with index ratings of 21. Weems tallied a season-high 22 points plus 8 rebounds and 2 assists against Laboral, while Jankunas led Zalgiris to a 75-62 victory over ALBA Berlin with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

 

 

 

 

Individual leaders: Fabien Causeur of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, 5 steals

 

The No. 1 scorer in Top 16 Round 2 was Andrew Goudelock of Fenerbahce Ulker, who netted 23 points in a road win at Nizhny Novgorod. He ranks second behind FC Barcelona playmaker Marcelinho Huertas for most points in the Top 16 so far. Marcelinho is averaging 22.5 per game, while Goudelock has 21. No one gathered more Top 16 Round 2 rebounds than Panathinaikos center Esteban Batsita’s 12. Nemanja Bjelica of Fenerbahce and Trey Thompkins of Nizhny share the Top 16 lead with 10.5 rebounds per game. Marcus Williams of Crvena Zvezda dished 9 assists to lead all players in Top 16 Round 2. Real Madrid’s Sergio Llull is the best passer so far in the Top 16 with 8 assists per game. The 5 steals recorded by Fabien Causeur of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria were the most by any player all week and place him alone atop the Top 16 standings with an average of 4 steals per game. CSKA forward Andrey Vorontsevich blocked 4 shots on Thursday, which marked the Top 16 Round 2 high. Nizhny center Art Parakhouski is averaging 3 blocks per Top 16 game to lead the league. Top 16 Round 2 co-bwin MVP Felipe Reyes, with his 22 points and 11 rebounds, was the only player to record a double-double this week
