Regular Season, Round 10 bwin MVP: Ioannis Bourousis, Real Madrid

The big man is the best player of the round in Euroleague

He has long been among the premier big men in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. On Thursday, Ioannis Bourousis recorded his best performance since he joined Real Madrid last season and in the process became the bwin MVP for Regular Season Round 10. Bourousis starred for Madrid in its 90-70 victory over Anadolu Efes Istanbul to clinch first place in Group A. He finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block for a performance index rating of 31, the highest of any player on a winning team in the last week of the regular season. One of Bourousis's former teammates, Keith Langford of Unics Kazan, matched him with a 31 index rating despite his team losing 78-74 at Nizhny Novgorod. That defeat ended Unics's Euroleague run, even though Langford shined with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. It was his first-ever Euroleague double-double. Two other players who put up big numbers in losing efforts were PGE Turow Zgorzelec big man Damian Kulig and ALBA Berlin big man Jamel McLean. Kulig finished his debut Euroleague campaign on a high note with his best game. Kulig posted 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks for his best index rating of the season, 29. Despite his performance, Turow ended its season with a 96-101 loss to EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. McLean recorded 16 points, 7 boards, 5 assists and 3 steals for a 29 index rating in a 67-70 loss at home against Cedevita Zagreb. Fifth on the list of Round 10's top performers were Devin Smith of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and Linas Kleiza of Milan, each with index ratings of 28. Smith led Maccabi to an 81-73 victory over Unicaja Malaga with 22 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Kleiza set a club record for three-pointers made with 8 and set a new personal high in scoring with 29 against PGE Turow. Kleiza also collected 6 rebounds in his team’s win.



 

Individual leaders: D'or Fischer, Unics Kazan, 5 blocks

Linas Kleiza, the 2009-10 Euroleague Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner, not only set a career-high with 29 points on Thursday, but he was also the best scorer in the league during Round 10. Taylor Rochestie of Nizhny Novgorod finished as the regular season’s No. 1 scorer with an average of 20 points per game. Patric Young pulled down 13 boards to lead all rebounders in Round 10. Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade center Boban Marjanovic completed a brilliant regular season as the Euroleague’s leading rebounder with 10.7 rebounds per game. Daniel Hackett of EA7 Milan and Marcelinho Huertas of FC Barcelona each had 9 assists, the most in Round 10. Marcus Williams of Crvena Zvezda finished as regular season's leader with 6.9 assists per night. Seven different players had 3 steals in the final week of the regular season – Madrid’s Rudy Fernandez, Maccabi’s Devin Smith, Darius Songaila of Zalgiris Kaunas, Jamel McLean and Leon Radosevic of ALBA, as well as the Laboral Kutxa Vitoria duo of Kim Tillie and Fabien Causeur. Finishing the regular season atop of this category is David Logan of Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari as he posted 2.3 steals per game. With 5 blocks in his final Euroleague game of the season, Unics Kazan’s D'or Fischer goes out with the most rejections in Round 10 and as the regular season leader with an average of 1.8 blocks per game. There were five double-doubles in Round 10. Along with Bourousis and Langford, Galatasaray's Young amassed 13 points and 13 rebounds, Zvezda's Marjanovic collected 12 points and 12 rebounds, Romain Sato of Valencia Basket had 11 points plus 10 boards, and Maciej Lampe of FC Barcelona 10 points and 10 rebounds.
