Best Rookie Deals In Europe: Patterson, Braun, Stone, Moser and Thames

The five best rookies landed in Europe

EuroLeague

Lamar Patterson, shooting guard/small forward, Tofas Bursa. One of the most chased rookies because of his terrific versatility and basketball IQ. He's not a player who will hold the ball and ask for possessions, is the type of shooter the team needed next to Lance Harris and has the ball-handling skills and court vision to help Wood on offense.

Taylor Braun, small forward/shooting guard, Okapi Aalstar. The Belgian team has built a roster to play mostly with four perimeter players. In such a context Braun can play at the 2, at the 3 or at the 4 positions, even though he'll probably start as a shooting guard, with Cummard on the wing next to him and Lodwick-Tofi in the frontcourt. He has to improve his shooting off the dribble, but his first step, ball-handling skills and catch and shoot ability are hard to find in a player with such a big and athletic physique.

Tyler Stone, power forward, Besiktas. He has first-class athletic skills and can play in the frontcourt along with Armstrong, Johnson or even Broekhoff. He has to improve his decision making, team fundamentals and overall knowledge of the game, but he can play both frontcourt positions and he's one of the best face-up rookie big men.

Mike Moser, power forward, Lietuvos Rytas. A type of player which Lietuvos Rytas badly needed during the last season. Along with Leslie he's going to provide elite athleticism and defensive potential, with the type of versatility which can bring a much needed help to the backcourt. On offense he can spread the floor and let Kavaliauskas and Natyazhko play in the paint, not worrying about being double teamed.

Xavier Thames, point guard/shooting guard, Baloncesto Sevilla. To replace Satoransky is not an easy task at all, and it's kind of a risky choice to give a rookie such a role, particularly given the fact that Thames is deeply different from the Czech guard. But with McNeal replacing Bamforth the team adds more experience and playmaking skills, allowing Thames to play more off the ball and to focus more on scoring duties, something he could be terrific at in Europe because of his overall talent and huge toughness. Despite being a little undersized, this backcourt has also great defensive potential.
