Euroleague Top 16, Round 4: Sportando Team of the Week

Krstic the MVP of the week

EuroLeague

MVP - Nenad Krstic (CSKA Moscow)

In the huge home win against a previously undefeated Real Madrid team (85-71), Krstic has really a big game on both ends of the floor. He's unguardable in the low post by any Real Madrid big man, can easily score with his mid-range jumper and makes a couple of big assists to Kaun in the fourth quarter when Real Madrid is able to comeback, while also playing very good defense both in the low post and on the pick and roll. He finishes with 18 PTS, 6 RBS, 7 FD and 25 EV.

Sergio Rodriguez (Real Madrid)

In a game in which Real Madrid struggles to score Rodriguez has a key role in the second quarter: with his team down by 19 he scores 8 points in about two minutes, cutting the lead to 10 at the half time and thus making possible the third quarter comeback. He's the only player in his team able to constantly score and move the ball during the whole game against a really tough CSKA's defense, and in the game he has 19 PTS and 19 EV.

Carlos Arroyo (Galatasaray)

Like many other times, Arroyo is unstoppable on offense, particularly on pick and roll plays. In his team's huge road win in Munich (72-66) he's on fire in the pivotal first quarter run (30-18), scoring 12 points with ridiculous ease and taking advantage of Bayern's poor show on the pick and roll. With the German able to take a 2-point lead in the third quarter, he steps up to sink a lucky spot-up triple that gives the lead back to Galatasaray, and in the last minute of the fourth quarter he makes another big shot with a tough jumper off the dribble. In the game he has 21 PTS and 21 EV, shooting 8/15 from the field and 3/6 from beyond the arc.

Krunoslav Simon (Lokomotiv Kuban)

Still down by 8 with 3.38 left in the game, Lokomotiv Kuban is able to grab the home win (80-75) by outscoring Zalgiris Kaunas 13-0 since then. Simon shoots extremely well from the field, is a consistent offensive threat on pick and roll plays and often leads the transition both with the outlet pass or dribbling right after the defensive rebound, while also having crucial tasks on the defensive end. In the first half he keeps his team in the game scoring 15 points, and he makes some pivotal play in the second one: a couple of assists to Maric out of the pick and roll, some key defensive play particularly in help defense and last but not least the long spot-up three that cuts the lead to 3 with little more than 2 minutes on the clock. He has 21 PTS, 6 RBS, 8 AST, 6 FD and 35 EV, shooting 8/11 from the field and 4/6 from three point range.

Victor Khryapa (CSKA Moscow)

Khryapa is the centerpiece of CSKA's outstanding defensive effort and has a key role in keeping Real Madrid off the offensive glass, while on offense he moves the ball extremely well and easily recognize an open teammate. He scores only 4 points but still his only field goal made come in the third quarter, after the early 11-4 run from Real Madrid that cuts the lead to 3. He finishes with 4 PTS, 6 RBS, 9 AST and 15 EV.
