Euroleague Game 6: Sportando Team of the Week

James Gist the MVP of the Week

EuroLeague

MVP - James Gist (Panathinaikos)
We've rarely seen a third quarter played the way Gist does: in 10 minutes Panathinaikos makes a 25-8 run to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit and get the home win against Lietuvos Rytas (80-72), with the American big man being by far the most important player on the court. He's everywhere on defense, defending the pick and roll, contesting shots and being effective on passing lanes, while also bringing a key contribution in rebounding and setting good screens on offense; even more important, he scores 14 points in a row (with back-to-back threes) in the first 8 minutes of the second half, cutting Lietuvos' lead down to 4. He finishes with 24 PTS, 6 RBS, 5 STL, 3 BLK, 5 FD and 29 EV.

Vassilis Spanoulis (Olympiacos)
The Greek guard has an unbelievable fourth quarter: back in the game with his team trailing by 5, he puts on a shooting show with three triples in less than two minutes, outscoring Malaga 9-0 and giving to his team the crucial lead in order to grab the road win (82-74). He has 21 PTS, 7 FD and 23 EV, with 12 points (4/4 from beyond the arc) in the last 7 minutes of the game.

Keith Langford (EA7 Milan)
22 PTS, 7 FD, 23 EV. With 6 points and 2 assists Langford is the main offensive contributor in the incredible 14-0 run at the begin of the fourth quarter, which gives to Milan a huge home win against Anadolu Efes (77-73). The American guard scores 15 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, putting into effect the excellent team effort on the defensive end.

Ricardo Greer (Strasbourg)
His leadership and experience are fundamental in Strasbourg's first Euroleague win (83-72 vs Brose Baskets Bamberg). Playing as usual at the 4, he struggles a bit in the paint but shows good decision making and moves the ball really well, also making some good defensive plays on the perimeter and being a constant offensive threat thanks to his jump shot. In the third quarter, with his team leading by 6, he makes a three, makes the entry pass to Ajinça who draws a foul, dishes an assist again to the French big man and makes another shot from outside, giving to his team a pivotal 14-point lead that Bamberg is not able to overcome. In the game he has 21 PTS, 5 AST and 22 EV

Vladimir Dragicevic (Stelmet Zielona Gora)
Signed just ten days before the first Euroleague game, Dragicevic is providing the presence in the paint that Zielona Gora badly needed. In the Polish team's first road win (78-71 in Munich) he takes advantage of Bayern's poor interior defense, scoring with ease in the paint and holding his own against an excellent rebounding team. He finishes with 19 PTS, 11 RBS, 2 BLK, 6 FD and 32 EV.
