Euroleague Basketball, One Team with Philippine typhoon victims

All Turkish Airlines Euroleague games from Wednesday through Friday will start with a minute of silence

The Euroleague Basketball family will come together as One Team all across the continent this week in support of the victims of the typhoon that left widespread devastation in the Philippines in recent days

To express solidarity with the basketball-loving country of the Philippines, all Turkish Airlines Euroleague games from Wednesday through Friday will start with a minute of silence to honor the victims and to encourage donations to the relief effort.   At the same time, Euroleague Basketball will donate 1€ to the Philippine Red Cross for each and every fan attending the 12 games in this week's Round 5 of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Regular Season

Euroleague Basketball's aid in the relief efforts will be in support of long-time partner UNICEF to promote and channel individual donations to the typhoon victims, of whom an estimated 4 million children are affected. On a similar joint effort in the wake of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Euroleague Basketball clubs sent €65.349 to victims of that tragedy through UNICEF

The donations and promotion of the Philippine typhoon relief effort are being made under the aegis of the corporate social responsibility programme One Team and in the name of all members of the Euroleague Basketball family.

"The tragedy unfolding in the Philippines calls on us to devote our thoughts and prayers to the victims, but also to do our small part in helping them recover," said Jordi Bertomeu, President and CEO of Euroleague Basketball. "As always, we know that our clubs, sponsors, partners and fans will respond with generosity in support of a country whose national sport is ours, basketball."
